Zombie Hand

Trouble told me about an experiment he did with his Papa called Frankenstein's Hand. We decided to give it a try and rename it Zombie Hand because we really like Zombies around here.

What you need:
  • 3 teaspoons baking soda
  • rubber glove
  • 3 tablespoons vinegar
  • cup

What you do:
Sprinkle baking soda inside glove. Get a little into each finger.

 Pour vinegar in the cup.

Stretch the bottom of the glove around the top of the cup.

Get the chemical reaction started by standing up a finger.

Watch the Zombie hand come to life.

Trouble had fun posing our Zombie hand.

The baking soda & vinegar reaction produces carbon dioxide which fills the glove wakes the dead.

Homemade Hovercraft

This summer Trouble and I have been making vehicles that run on balloons. Our favorite balloon vehicle is this hovercraft my dad, Papa, told us about. He made this with his students when teaching about Newton's Laws.

What you need:
  • spool
  • old CD
  • balloon
  • glue (hot glue, crazy glue... whatever you have)

  What you do:
Put a little glue on the spool.

Glue the spool to the CD.

Stretch the balloon over the top of the spool.

Blow up the balloon by blowing into the hole in the CD.

Set the hovercraft down on a flat surface.
Give it a tap and watch it go.
Newton's laws may be quite complex 
but making this hovercraft was EASY!

Easy Pesto

Thanks to my dad, Papa, I've had a fantastic crop of basil this summer. And you know what basil means right? Pesto!

What you need:
  • 1 cup fresh basil
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 cup almonds
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
  • salt and pepper
What you do:
Toss the first five ingredients in your blender or food processor.

Blend until the pesto has reached your desired consistency. Feel free to add more oil if needed. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Enjoy on sandwiches, pizza, salads, grilled meats, veggies and of course pasta.

Chocolate Cream Pie

Mr.Perfect LOVES chocolate pie! At our wedding he asked for chocolate cream pie instead of a groom's cake. I knew from the start that a great chocolate cream pie recipe would be the key to happiness in our house. After a long search and trial and error I've finally found a pie recipe that isn't too heavy or too sweet. Thank you for the wonderful pie!

What you need:
  • 2 large 4.25oz Hershey's chocolate bars (I like the kind with almonds)
  • 1  1/2 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups whipping cream, whipped
  • 1 pie crust (I used an Oreo crust)

What you do:

Stir constantly as you heat the chocolate, marshmallows and milk in a pan over low heat.

When the chocolate and marshmallows are melted remove from heat. Transfer mixture to a bowl and allow to cool in the refrigerator.

Once the chocolate mixture is completely cool, fold in the whipped cream.
 Do not attempt to sample this...
  you will end up eating it all before it becomes a pie.

Pour the chocolate cream into the pie plate and allow to set in the refrigerator for about 3 hours, but overnight is best.
I like to fancy up my pie with some chocolate shavings.
