A Little Boy's Volcano Request

Recently, Trouble got it in his head that he wanted to make a volcano. You know the baking soda and vinegar kind they make in school. Mr. Perfect loved Trouble's volcano idea and the boys got to work, with a little help from me.

First we made a base for the volcano out of an old styrofoam cooler lid and an empty plastic Coke bottle.

Using newspaper and some tape we built up the bottom of the bottle to make the shape of a mountain around the Coke bottle.

Trouble mixed up some "glue" (1 part water, 1 part flour).

Then he tore some strips of newspaper.

And dumped the strips in the "glue."

Trouble dipped the strips in the glue then wrapped them around the volcano, completely covering everything except the top of the Coke bottle.

Once the volcano was covered in the gluey strips, we let the paper mache dry.

Trouble had fun painting the volcano to look like a mountain.

Once the paint was dry we were ready for some volcanic action.

Mr.Perfect put 3 tablespoons of baking soda in the Coke bottle.

Then he added about 1/4 cup hot water to 1 cup vinegar with a few drops of both red food coloring and dish soap.

Next it was time to slowly pour the vinegar mixture into the bottle.

Trouble and his friend loved the volcanic show.
