A Black and Tan is a beer cocktail made with half Guinness (Irish beer) and half Bass Ale (English beer). The Guinness floats on top of the Bass. This simple drink can be seen as a metaphor for many things Irish and English (they don’t mix). Black and Tans were also the nickname given to the British forces formed to suppress the Irish Independence movement in 1920 and 1921. So don't go ordering a Black and Tan in Ireland. This St. Patrick’s Day, have a Half and Half instead. Similar to a Black and Tan, it is half Guinness and half Harp Lager, making it all Irish.
What you need:
- 1 bottle Harp Lager
- 1 can Guinness (not bottled)
- pint glass
- spoon
What you do:
Gently pour half of the Harp into a tall beer glass.
Place a large tablespoon, dome side up, above the lager beer, with the tip of the spoon pointed slightly down.
Slowly pour half of the stout beer over the tablespoon, so the stout gently pours down the side of the glass in a thick trickle. The key is to pour the Guinness S-L-O-W-L-Y.
Allow to stand a few seconds so two distinct layers of beer form.

Better served in the original Guinness pint glass, need a beer tee head on the Harp to support the Guinness...also recommend using a true Guinness spoon (look it up;^)
