Cinnamon Monkey Bread

All week long I've been reading a poem titled Zelba Zinnamon (it's about cinnamon cake) to a group of very sweet second graders.  Each time we read it they tell me that they are hungry for cinnamon cake. "Me too!" I reply. I thought it would be fun to share one of my favorite cinnamon cakes with them, Monkey Bread.

What you need:
3 cans buttermilk biscuits (the non-flaky kind)
1 cup sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
2 sticks butter
½ cup brown sugar

What you do:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Open up three cans of biscuits and cut each biscuit into quarters.

Dump the white sugar and 3 teaspoons of cinnamon into a 1 gallon zip-loc bag and mix.

Drop all of the biscuit quarters into the cinnamon-sugar mix. Once all the biscuit quarters are in the bag, seal and shake until all the pieces are coated with cinamon-sugar.

Spread the cinnamon-sugar biscuits evenly in a greased bundt pan. (I spray some Bakers Joy in there.)
In a microwave safe bowl, melt the two sticks of butter with ½ cup of brown sugar. Stir well, then pour butter mixture over the biscuits.

Bake for 30 minutes until the top is dark brown. Allow it to cool for about 15 minutes before turning it over onto a plate.
 Thank you Zelba Zinnamon!

  5. This looks so yummy, i love cinnamon! :D

We don't have buttermilk biscuits though...and they seem to have a really soft texture unlike ordinary cookies...do you have any suggestions for what items i may be able to use instead?

  6. Naturally Me Creations- I have used frozen bread dough (Rhodes is the brand we have) to make monkey bread. I have also made homemade yeast bread dough and used small spoonfuls of the dough.
ps-Love your blog, it's fascinating to see what women all over the globe are up to!
